Extra Fun: First Extra-Innings Win of Season Caps Sweep for RailRiders
Tyler Wade’s walk-off bunt single delivers 5-4 win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
MOOSIC, Pa. (May 17, 2018)–The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders trailed the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-2 entering the bottom of the 8thinning, but Mike Ford continued his power surge and Tyler Wade creatively brought home the winning run with two outs in the 11thinning for the win.
Before a sold-out 10,000-person Education Day crowd at PNC Field, the RailRiders used the long ball to force extra innings after falling behind early in the game against Tom Eshelman. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs scored single runs in the 1st, 2ndand 4thinnings to take a 3-0 lead, but the RailRiders bats got going. Rey Navarro, who was appearing in just his fourth game with SWB, doubled to begin the inning before L.J. Mazzilli cracked his third home run of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2.
That set up the Ford homer a few innings later to tie the game and eventually force extras.
With the teams trading scoreless half innings from the top of the 9thinning into the bottom of the 11th, the RailRiders took advantage of the new pace-of-play baserunner at second base to begin the inning. Zack Zehner advance to third base when the leadoff batter, Navarro, grounded out to first base, which set up an intentional walk to Mazzilli. The RailRiders’ second baseman took second base on defensive indifference and watched on as Shane Robinson grounded out to a drawn-in infield and didn’t score Zehner from third base.

The next man up was Wade who promptly dragged a bunt down the first base line and forced Jake Waguspack to field with the bare hand, spin and throw to first. The throw was bang-bang at the bag with Wade, but was over the top of Joey Meneses and rolled into right field as Zehner scored to win the game.
The RailRiders pile on the bus and head north to Buffalo to start a three-game series against the Bisons Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. LHP Daniel Camarena (2-2, 4.72) gets the ball against LHP Ryan Borucki (2-4, 4.13) for Buffalo. Pregame coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino.
