RAILRIDERS WIN IN THE NINTH

RailRiders Take Thriller From Knights
Mike Ford Singles Home Game-Winner in Ninth

Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) earned their ninth walk-off win of 2017 on Friday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (63-35) bested the Charlotte Knights 2-1, winning for the eighth time in nine tries since the All-Star break. SWB have won four straight, 14-of-17 and 30-of-41. The Knights (40-58) have lost six straight and nine-of-10.

Tied 1-1 entering the last of the ninth, Donovan Solano ignited the rally by lacing a one-out double down the left field line. Reliever Matt Purke (3-4) then uncorked a wild pitch against Jake Cave that sent Solano to third base before the Knights intentionally walked Cave. Mike Ford stepped in and mashed a first-pitch single to right that scored Solano.

Nick Rumbelow (4-0) took home the winning decision after holding the Knights scoreless in the top of the frame. His only base runner reached on a walk.

Charlotte scored the first run of the game in the fourth against starter Chance Adams when Danny Hayes lined a single to right that scored Rob Brantly, barely beating the throw in from Billy McKinney. Adams hurled six frames, allowing the one run on five hits and a walk.

SWB immediately answered with a tally in the home half against Reynaldo Lopez. Tyler Wade rolled an infield hit to short and stole second. After swiping his International League-leading 26th base, he raced to third on a throwing error by the catcher Brantly. Cave plated Wade two batters later on a booming double off the left field wall.
