Five Innings- Completed Early
MOOSIC, Pa. (August 14, 2018) –After three hours and 26 minutes of rain delays, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Indianapolis Indians 7-3 on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The game was completed early in the fifth inning due to rain.
Initially slated as a doubleheader, the game was shifted to one nine-inning game and began two-hours and 40 minutes after the scheduled start time.
The Indians scored first in the fourth as Ryan Lavarnway led off with a double. Wyatt Mathisen was hit by a pitch and Jerrick Suiter hit a three-run homer to give Indianapolis a 3-0 lead.
The RailRiders answered in the fifth as Giovanny Urshela and Zack Zehner had back-to-back singles. Wilkin Castillo then snagged a base hit of his own that plated Urshela. Tyler Wade singled to score Zehner. Abiatal Avelino walked and Ryan McBroom drove in two runs with a base hit to left to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the lead. Mike Ford then smashed a three-run home run to put the RailRiders ahead 7-3.
The RailRiders batted around in the fifth. As Urshela was coming up for his second plate appearance of the inning, the umpires called the game due to heavy rains. Four and a half innings were played and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the home team, had the lead making the game complete. Every RailRiders batter reached base at least once in the fifth inning to seal the victory. Ford was perfect at the plate going two-for-three with three RBIs and a hit by pitch. Erik Swanson (2-2) walked away with the victory allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out six.
The RailRiders will play a doubleheader tomorrow with Indianapolis. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets.
