PONIES WIN OVER READING 4-2

Bing’s Big First Foils Fightin’s in Middle Game
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton scored four first-inning runs in a 4-2 victory over Reading on Saturday at NYSEG Stadium. The Rumble Ponies never trailed in their third straight win, backing six strong innings from starting pitcher Justin Dunn. The victory guarantees the Ponies back-to-back series wins.
The Rumble Ponies didn’t score from the second through ninth innings, but didn’t need to after their first-inning rally. Binghamton brought eight batters to the plate in the first frame, scoring four runs on four hits against Fightin Phils starter Ranfi Casimiro. The right-handed hurler helped jolt the Ponies offense, committing a fielding error on the first play of the inning. With Andres Gimenez at the plate and Patrick Biondi taking off for second, the 19-year-old shortstop shot a groundball through the vacated hole on the left side of the infield, putting runners on the corners with no outs for Joey Terdoslavich. Binghamton’s first baseman followed by bashing a three-run home run just inside the right-field foul pole, his second in as many days. Already ahead 3-0, Binghamton received a Will Toffey double and Jhoan Urena single to scratch a fourth first-inning run across.
Casimiro (5-3) would not allow another run in his six innings of work. He struck out four Ponies and walked two.
Reading’s offense only managed one run against Dunn, plating their lone tally in the fourth inning. Damek Tomscha singled and Darick Hall walked, before Deivi Grullon’s groundout pushed the pair into scoring position. A walk to Austin Listi loaded the bases for Malquin Canelo, whose groundball fielder’s choice brought in Tomscha, cutting the Rumble Ponies lead to 4-1.
Dunn (6-4) gave up just two hits in his seven-inning effort, garnering his first win since July 21. Despite walking four, the righty struck out seven and retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.
Reading brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning against Ryder Ryan, but the right-handed reliever diffused the danger with a pair of strikeouts. Joshua Torres earned his fifth save and second in as many games by completing the ninth inning. Torres allowed a solo home run to Canelo in the frame, the first Eastern League longball given up by Torres this season.
Binghamton (59-65) and Reading wrap up their regular season series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Kevin McGowan tosses for the Rumble Ponies against Fightin Phils RHP Connor Seabold. First pitch at NYSEG Stadium is scheduled for 2:05 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 1:50 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
