PONIES WIN OVER THE PHILS 5-2

Lucky Number Seven Sends Ponies Past Phils
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton scored three times in the seventh inning Friday night at NYSEG Stadium, snatching the series-opener from Reading, 5-2. The Rumble Ponies third win over the last four games is their first against Reading this season – they suffered a three-game sweep to the Fightin Phils last week. This series marks the only time Reading travels to Binghamton in the 2018 regular season.
Tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, the Binghamton bats managed to plate three runs on just two hits. Facing Aaron Brown, the Rumble Ponies rally started with an Andrew Ely walk and J.J. Franco sacrifice bunt. A Kevin Taylor walk set the stage for the 19-year-old Andres Gimenez, who brought in his fourth RBI in the last two games by singling in Ely. Ahead 3-2, the Ponies received insurance on Darick Hall’s throwing error. Brown looked to have picked off Gimenez at first, but Hall’s bad throw allowed Gimenez to thieve second and Taylor to score. Joey Terdoslavich capped the three-run frame with a RBI single up the middle, scoring Gimenez to make it 5-2.
The Fightin Phils made the Rumble Ponies earn the victory, nearly tying the game in the next half inning. Stephen Villines toed the rubber for his second inning out of the bullpen, but was yanked after issuing a walk to Adam Haseley and a single to Damek Tomscha. With one out in the inning, Luis Rojas took the ball from Villines and handed it to his only left-handed option, David Roseboom. The southpaw first met Darick Hall, whose sacrifice fly pushed home Haseley for a 5-3 game. Roseboom struck out Gruillon to end the eighth-inning threat.
Joshua Torres picked up his fourth save by tossing a perfect ninth inning.
The Rumble Ponies needed the three-run seventh inning despite scoring the game’s first two runs. Joey Terdoslavich blasted a solo home run in the fourth inning and Patrick Biondi knocked into a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the fifth inning.
Blake Quinn made his Double-A debut for Reading, tossing the first three innings. Despite issuing five walks, he managed to keep Binghamton off the scoreboard.
Franklyn Kilome made his fourth Rumble Ponies start and second straight against his former club, Reading. After hurling the first five innings scoreless, he coughed up a pair of runs in the sixth. After allowing a leadoff home run to Haseley, Grullon delivered a one-out sacrifice fly to even the score at 2-2.
Villines (1-0) picks up the win in his second-ever Double-A appearance. He shutout the Fightin Phils in the seventh inning, before recording an out and allowing a run in the eighth.
Brown (1-2) was the victim of Binghamton’s three-run seventh. In his two innings, he gave up two hits and walked two.
Binghamton (58-65) battles Reading on Saturday evening when RHP Justin Dunn duels with RHP Ranfi Casimiro with first pitch at NYSEG Stadium scheduled for 6:05 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 5:50 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
