RailRiders Swept in Double Dip
SWB Drops IronRail Series for First Time Since 2014
Allentown, Pa.
– The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) dropped a pair of
games to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The IronPigs (79-62) took home the first game 3-2 before posting a
shutout in the nightcap, 2-0. The RailRiders (86-54) have lost four
straight for the first time in 2017.
The RailRiders built a 2-0 lead on the front of the twin bill thanks to a home run by Jonathan Diaz and a run-scoring double by Donovan Solano. However, the IronPigs rallied for an unearned run off Ronald Herrera in
the last of the third and tied the game on a solo homer by Andrew
Pullin in the fifth. Herrera pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs, one
earned, on one hit. The right-hander walked two and struck out three.
J.P. Crawford singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh off Cale Coshow
(0-1). Pat Venditte (9-5) was the benefactor of Lehigh Valley’s
comeback, taking home the winning decision after 1.1 scoreless innings
of relief work.
Tyler Wade went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the first game to boost his International League-best batting average to .310.
Nestor Cortes (2-4)
shouldered the loss in the second game despite a quality start. The
left-hander allowed two runs on seven hits across six innings. He walked
three and struck out six. Jose Taveras (3-1) hurled a two-hit shutout
over six innings, striking out four. Pedro Beato fired a perfect seventh
for his IL-best 32nd save.
The 2017 IL North Division Champion
RailRiders conclude the regular season on Monday, September 4, with a
