Lail Leads RailRiders to Game Three Triumph

The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) roared away with six
unanswered runs to defeat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 6-1 on Saturday
night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (2-1) grabbed the advantage in the
best-of-five Governors’ Cup semi-final series against the IronPigs (1-2)
with the win.
For the second straight season, Brady Lail (1-0)
got the ball for Game Three against the IronPigs. The right-hander
worked around seven hits to hold Lehigh Valley to one run over six
innings. He walked one and struck out six. Anyelo Gomez and Cale Coshow teamed up for the final three, scoreless innings.
After Brock Stassi’s solo homer gave the
IronPigs a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, SWB responded with a pair
in the bottom half. Mason Williams opened the frame with a single to left off Henderson Alvarez (0-1). Donovan Solano followed with a double to left that scored Williams from first. Miguel Andujar capped the frame with a sacrifice fly that scored Solano for a 2-1 lead.
SWB made it 3-1 in the fifth when Kyle Higahsioka crossed home on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Diaz. Billy McKinney poured on more steam in the sixth when he lined a two-run homer over the right field wall for a 5-1 advantage.
Solano polished off the scoring and a
three-hit night in the seventh when he singled home Diaz. The
RailRiders’ second baseman is 7-for-13 in the series with 4RBIs.
The RailRiders can earn a berth in the IL
Governors’ Cup Championship Series for the second straight year with a
win on Sunday, September 10. First pitch against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) is set for 1:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Left-hander Nestor Cortes
(2-4, 1.49) gets the nod against right-hander Jacob Waguespack (9-7,
3.42 A+/AA). The RailRiders will donate $1 for every playoff ticket sold
