HERE & THERE COLUMN

A Package To Nashville Stops In New Jersey

Mailed a package to the Nashville area of Tennessee from the Livingston Manor post office
and in a two-week period of time the package only got to New Jersey.....must have been part of the old "pony express."
We've heard of slow delivery but can't believe that a parcel post package would only get to New Jersey from Livingston Manor in a time period of two weeks.
And a clerk in the Livingston Manor post office looked at the receipt, traced the package to New Jersey and told us she would send an email to them and maybe this would move the package along.
Seems my package and complaint follows many complaints of slow mail delivery and that the U.S. Postal Service delivery times lag more than expected.
But, we hear the post office is trying to act and in one area the agency sent teams to 20 post service sites to try to fix the problem.
A statement from the Postal Service says it is continuing  to revamp itself and that delayed mail has decreased each  month.
What matters in cases like this is that slowing down the mail could have effects on  mail volumes and much of the savings the Postal Service is anticipating from plant closures and eliminating jobs.
It may not even matter as leaders of the Postal Service have decided that slowing down the mail will be beneficial to the bottom line and these days that seems to be about all that does matter.
The next package we send out will be by UPS or Fedex.
