FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUST SHORT: SWB EDGED 3-2 BY COLUMBUS
Bollinger throws five strong inning in his organizational debut
MOOSIC, Pa. (April 24, 2018) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Columbus Clippers 3-2 on Tuesday night at PNC Field.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got on the board in the bottom of the first inning against Columbus starter Shawn Morimando. A double from Tyler Wade and a single by Abiatal Avelino put runners on first and third with no outs. Shane Robinson singled in Wade for the first run of the game. Two batters later, a Kyle Higashioka groundout plated Avelino to put the RailRiders ahead 2-0.
The Clippers answered in the top of the second with a solo home run from Brandon Barnes off Ryan Bollinger to cut the deficit to 2-1. That would be the only run Bollinger would allow in his Yankees organizational debut.
The 6-foot-6 southpaw threw five innings and allowed a just one run on four hits, walking two and striking out five. Bollinger was signed as a Minor League free agent by the Yankees in December 2017 after spending last season playing overseas in Australia and Germany.
Joe Harvey (0-1) struggled in his RailRiders debut out of the bullpen in the top of the sixth. After two singles and a fielder’s choice, Yu Chang snuck a two-run double down the left field line to put Columbus on top 3-2.
J.P. Feyereisen tossed a scoreless seventh, but walked the bases loaded in the top of the eighth with two outs. Cale Coshow was summoned from the bullpen and struck out Todd Hankins to end the threat. Coshow contributed a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth to complete his night.
In the bottom of the ninth, Wade reached on a bunt single against Neil Ramirez and promptly stole second and third base. The RailRiders could not bring him home, however, as Ramirez held on for a six-out save; his second of the season.
The RailRiders collected 11 hits in the game, the third straight game in which they recorded double-digit hits. Wade, Higashioka and Robinson all had two-hit efforts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The RailRiders complete their three-game series with the Columbus Clippers with a rubber game on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled 6:35 p.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sends Daniel Camarena (0-1, 4.97) to the hill, while Columbus counters with Stephen Fife (0-2, 11.32) to the bump.
