FLORIDA--Lady Spartan's short stop Katie Moos blasted a three-run home run deep over the center field fence in the bottom of the first inning to propel S.S. Seward to a 7-1 quarter final Section IX Class C sectional win over the Lady Bears of Tri-Valley Tuesday at Florida.
The visiting Bears got on the scoreboard in the top of the first scoring one run as Ashton Krummack walked to start the inning and on a bunt out advanced to third base and scored on a single to left by Kacie Allison.
The 1-0 Bear lead didn't last long as Seward's Sarah Wierzbicki singled to left , Sinead Brosnan was safe on a bunt and Moss blasted a Kacie Allison pitch over the center field fence for a 3-1 lead.
No runs crossed the plate in the second and third innings but Florida add one run in the bottom of the fourth on one error, a bunt single, another bunt single and a single to center field by Wierzbicki.
Two more Seward runs scored in the bottom of the fifth on two Tri-Valley errors, a single to center by Morgan Schultz and with bases loaded Wiersbicki was hit by a pitched ball forcing in another run which pushed the Spartan's lead to 6-1.
Seward added their 7th run in the bottom of the sixth off a single to center by Paige Lee, another single to center by Taylor Weirzbicki and a single to right by Morgan Beattie.
The Seward win boosts their overall record to 15-5 and they were scheduled to play No. 2 seed Pine Plains yesterday. Tri-Valley ends the season with an overall record of 12-9.
Tri-Valley coach Claire Moore during the post game interview noted "unfortunately we had errors and we were not aggressive with the bats."
When asked about the overall season Moore said, "my team continues to amaze me and they have proved to me that they are here to work harder and get better and they look to each other for support."
"I'm proud and honored to see this team grow with experience from the beginning of the season to this final game," Moore added.
Seward coach Don Lewis felt his team "played some outstanding defense with outfielders cutting off base runners advancing and throwing out runners advancing to third."
"We played pretty much a perfect game in the infield and I give Tri-Valley credit for hanging in there," Lewis said.
Seward's Brittany Milz threw a three-hitter and struck out nine.
Moss's home run drove in three runs, Sarah Wierzbicki and Morgan Beattie each had two hits and an RBI and Paige Yee went 3 for 4.
Allison Casey took the loss for Tri-Valley but was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Bears.
