ELDRED DEFEATS LADY BEARS

GRAHAMSVILLE--It took two years to get the monkey off their backs but the Eldred Yellowjackets put it all together last Thursday afternoon defeating Tri-Valley 6-3 ending regular season play for both teams.
Eldred coach Ryan Jasper noted that his teams record  against Tri-Valley entering Thursday's game was 0-5 for the last two years.
"We have our days when we look bad and then we have days when it looks like we could play with anybody and this is a big win to finish the regular season and go into the sectionals with," Jasper said.
Eldred is the No. 1 seed in the Class D girls softball division and plays the winner of the Livingston  Manor-Chapel Field game on Saturday, May 30 in a 3 p.m. game at Rhinebeck.
No. 3 Livingston Manor plays at No 2 Chapel Field Thursday May 28.
No. 6 seed Tri-Valley plays in the Section IX Class C quarterfinals against S.S.Seward at Florida this afternoon at 4 p.m.
Prior to the start of this game three Tri-Valley Seniors, Danielle Shafarsky, Ashley Johnson and Brianna Terbush, were honored before playing their last home game.
Tri-Valley coach Claire Moore in post-game remarks describing the loss to Eldred said, "we lost because of errors and stops our seven game winning streak."
"This is not the game we play, it is not my Tri-Valley Bears and this is not my team I've been looking at all season long and whatever it takes we're going to come out and play our game the next time out," Moore added.
In talking with Coach Moore about Tri-Valley's improvement from the first quarter of the season to now she pointed out "we went from having seven and eight errors a game to having no errors."
When asked about the  heavy schedule during the last two weeks of the season and what effect it has on the girls, coach Moore stressed the fact that "from the beginning I've asked the team every single day to work hard and to keep focused."
Eldred opened their scoring in the top of the first inning when Sami Clemmons flied out to right field and the ball dropped out of the right fields glove for an error allowing Clemmons to advance to second base and scoring on a ground ball throwing error.
Eldred added three runs in their half of the second inning on two Tri-Valley erors. a slow rolling grounder allowing  Jenna Burns to reach first base ahead of the ball and a single by Clemmons.
The Yellowjackets took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning and sealed their victory with two runs off two more Tri-Valley errors when Audrey Mellan  reached first base on an infield error and Clemmons drive to right was misplayed  by the right field scoring both Mellan and Clemmons.
Tri-Valley got on the scoreboard scoring two runs in the bottom of the second on singles by Kacie Allison and Danielle Shafarsky, a sacrifice bunt by Katie Jester advancing both runners to third and second and an error on Eldred's first baseman dropping a throw allowing the runs to score.
The Bears third run came in the bottom of the third on a walk to Angie DiToro  who stole second and scored on a single to center by Allison.
Eldred's winning pitcher Jordan Lepes recorded 6 strikeouts while Tri-Valley's losing  pitcher Kacie Allison had 5 strikeouts.
Clemmons had two singles and two RBI's for the Yellowjackets.
