ROSTER ADJUSTMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR PBA WORLD SERIES OF BOWLING
A series of late injury and work-related issues have resulted in several adjustments to the lineup for the PBA World Series of Bowling, which gets underway Oct. 25 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas.
Players who have withdrawn include Steve Harman, Indianapolis; Tom Hess, Urbandale, Iowa; Allan Pomatto, Goose Creek, S.C.; Ronnie Horton, Christiansburg, Va., and Yosif Fatah, Bahrain.
Replacing those players from the “first-come, first-served” waiting list are Jim Tomek Jr., Camp Hill, Pa.; Don Allen III, Vancouver, Wash.; Jerry Johnson Jr., Las Vegas; Kevin Croucher, Grants Pass, Ore., and Jeff Voght, Canojahaire, N.Y.
Harman, who has also resigned his Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour exemption for the 2010-11 season due to personal reasons, will be replaced on the exempt roster by Nathan Bohr, Wichita, Kan., who was next in line on the 2009-10 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour points list. Bohr had already entered the World Series.
PBA REGIONAL ROUNDUP powered by Xtra Frame:
LOSCHETTER, HESS POST SECOND REGIONAL VICTORIES OF THE SEASON
Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour exempt player Chris Loschetter of Avon, Ohio, defeated amateur William Osborn of Muncie, Ind., 254-224, to win the PBA Central Region’s Boss Plows/Mid-States Truck Open at Do-Ri-Me Lanes in Richmond, Ind., on Oct. 10 for his second PBA Regional title of the season and the eighth of his career. He earned $2,400 along with his title.
Loschetter edged former PBA Tour exempt player Dave Traber of Hebron, Ill., 195-184, and Osborn defeated Jeff Roche of Dearborn, Mich., 246-186, in the semifinal round to set up the championship match. Seven-time PBA Tour titlist Steve Jaros of Yorkville, Ill., and former exempt tour players Brian Himmler of Cincinnati and Tim Mack of Indianapolis lost in the Round of 16.
In the joint PBA Midwest/Southwest Regional Barney’s Open at Enterprise Lanes in Springfield, Mo., Tom Hess of Urbandale, Iowa, defeated Marc Heninger of Tonganoxie, Kan., by 13 pins to win $2,600, his second regional title of the season and the sixth of his career. Hess finished with a 10-2 match play record and a total of 4,629 pins for 20 games, including match play bonus pins. Heninger was 6-4-2 in match play and finished with 4,616 pins.
A pair of non-members won in the PBA East and West Regions. Jimmy Plessinger of York, Pa., defeated Tommy Gollick of Oberlin, Pa., 256-200, to win the East Region Leisure Lanes Open and $2,500 in Lancaster, Pa. Plessinger, a PBA member from 2004-07, was bowling in his third regional event this season as a non-member, but he won’t be credited with a PBA title because of his amateur status.
Likewise, 18-year-old amateur Lanndy Carnate of Glendale, Ariz., was a winner in the PBA West TKR Open at Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson, Ariz., on Oct. 10, but his 265-205 victory over two-time PBA Tour winner Michael Haugen Jr. of Carefree, Ariz., doesn’t count as a PBA title. Carnate won $2,400.
Carnate defeated former exempt tour competitor Dave Wodka, Chatsworth, Calif., 247-215, and Haugen edged another former exempt tour player, Ben Laughlin of Phoenix, 225-206, in the semifinal round.
On the schedule for the Oct. 15-17 weekend are regional events in the East Region at Varsity Lanes in Bowling Green, Ohio; in the Midwest at Maple Lanes in Waterloo, Iowa; in the South at NAS Freedom Lanes in Jacksonville, Fla., and a doubles event in the Northwest at Stardust Lanes in Walla Walla, Wash., as the two-month chase for eight additional PBA Playoffs qualifying positions in six regional areas continues. Qualifying tournaments in the PBA East, South, Central, Midwest, Southwest and combined West/Northwest Regions will continue through Nov. 30.
