SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS GAME REPORT
Lehigh Valley  4  -  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre  3
Unearned run in the bottom of the 8th inning proves costly for RailRiders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ALLENTOWN, PA (June 28, 2019) – Friday night’s game before a sellout crowd of 10,100 fans at Coca-Cola Park was deadlocked entering the bottom of the 8th inning, but a throwing miscue by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders allowed an unearned run to score giving the Lehigh Valley IronPigs a 4-3 series-opening win.
In what proved to be the decisive inning, the RailRiders sent Jonathan Holder to the mound for a 2nd inning in his first game with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. After allowing a run in the 7
th inning, the 8th inning began with a single by Malquin Canelo. He was bunted into scoring position by Phil Gosselin and was there with two outs when Andrew Romine came to the plate.
The RailRiders opted to bring Danny Coulombe from the bullpen to face the switch-hitting Romine who bats 20 points lower from the right side of the plate. He smoked a hard groundball to the right side of the infield, in which first baseman Logan Morrison made an incredible diving stop to keep the ball on the infield, but then delivered a wayward throw to Coulombe covering the bag to allow Canelo to round third base and score the eventual winning run.

The RailRiders trailed 1-0 early, but threw three runs on the board in the top of the 5
th inning with some two-out action off IronPigs starter Enyel De Los Santos. Erik Kratz doubled and was at second base with one out when Mike Ford walked. Breyvic Valera singled home Kratz to tie the game 1-1. The next man up was Tyler Wade who sliced a triple to left-centerfield to score Ford and Valera and give the RailRiders their last runs of the night.
Lehigh Valley scored single runs in the 2
nd, 5th and 7th innings to set up the go-ahead situation in the 8th to come away with the win.
Adonis Rosa got the start for SWB and turned in his finest performance of the season despite picking up a no-decision. Over 6.0 innings he scattered four hits and struck out seven batters while allowing two runs on just a pair of solo home runs from Lehigh Valley’s Austin Listi.

The RailRiders and IronPigs go head-to-head for the middle game of their three-game set Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sends RHP Randall Delgado (1-2, 4.50) to the mound, going up against LHP Cole Irvin (2-0, 2.50) who has allowed just one earned run in 12.1 innings against SWB this season.
