PBA Women’s World Championship
and Senior World Championship
Winners to earn Tournament of Champions Berths
The Professional Bowlers Association has announced that the winners of the 2009 PBA Women’s World Championship and PBA Senior World Championship will earn berths into the 2010 PBA Tournament of Champions which will be conducted Jan. 19-24 at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas.
The PBA Women’s World Championship and Senior World Championship will be conducted Aug. 30-Sept. 5 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich., as the final events of PBA’s World Series of Bowling, which begins Aug. 2 with the Motor City Open at Taylor Lanes in Taylor, Mich.
“In addition to the Women’s World Championship being a milestone event for professional women’s bowling, it will also mark the first time a woman will be guaranteed a berth in what is arguably professional bowling’s most prestigious event,” said PBA Deputy Commissioner Tom Clark. “It will also provide an opportunity to better showcase our Senior Tour players by adding a third Senior representative to the TOC field.”
The PBA Women’s World Championship, which is an open-field event, is part of the PBA Women’s Series presented by BOWL.COM and was created by the PBA to be its first major women’s championship.
Along with the Women’s World Championship and Senior World Championship winners, the Tournament of Champions field is open to all exempt-player champions, the winners of the most recent PBA Regional Championship and Regional Players Invitational, the Senior Masters and Senior U.S. Open champions, and all Tournament of Champions past winners.
If there are still vacancies in the original field of 63, players may be invited from a list that includes Hall of Fame members (in order of most titles) and non-exempt champions (in order of most recent winner).
