SYRACUSE WINS 8-6

Luis Guillorme collected two hits and three RBIs on Saturday night for Syracuse (Danny Tripodi).

Syracuse, NY (July 27, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets picked up their third straight victory on Saturday night, topping the Toledo Mud Hens, 8-6, at NBT Bank Stadium. Luis Guillorme homered, doubled, and drove in three runs for Syracuse in the win.

Toledo (46-59) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Ronny Rodriquez and Dustin Peterson both singled to put two runners on base. Mud Hens catcher Kade Scivicque then drilled a single of his own, plating Rodriquez from second and giving Toledo a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (53-52) countered with a big bottom of the second inning. Grégor Blanco got things going with a single. Travis Taijeron was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second base. Two batters later, Arismendy Alcantara singled to score Blanco and tie the ballgame, 1-1. The rally continued with a Guillorme double, scoring both Taijeron and Alcnatara and putting the Mets in front, 3-1.

In the third inning, Syracuse kept the bats hot. Rubén Tejada walked to lead off the frame. Two outs later, Blanco reached on a costly error to keep the inning going. After that, Taijeron walked, loading the bases for Braxton Lee. The Mets center fielder came through with a bases-clearing double, giving Syracuse a 6-1 advantage. For the second straight night, the Mets scored three runs in each of the second and third innings of the ballgame.

The Mud Hens responded with two runs in the top of the fifth. Daz Cameron led off with a walk. Two outs later, Victor Reyes singled to put runners on first and second. Dawel Lugo then singled to left field. Cameron scored from second and Reyes also scored on the play after a fielding error, shrinking the Syracuse lead to three, 6-3.

Syracuse extended its lead in the sixth. Luis Guillorme blasted a solo home run to start the frame, extending the Mets lead to 7-3.

Toledo struck back in the top of the eighth. After a two out single by Peterson, Scivicque launched a two-run homer to make it 7-5 Syracuse.

In the home half of the eighth inning, Alcantara ripped a triple to center field to start the inning. After two outs, Tejada brought Alcantara home on a single for an insurance run, pushing the Mets' advantage to 8-5.

Toledo’s Willi Castro cut the deficit back to two in the top of the ninth on a solo homer. In the end though, it was too little too late for the Mud Hens. Jacob Rhame completed the save for the Mets.

Syracuse looks for its fourth straight win Sunday afternoon in the series finale against Toledo. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
