Ponies Blank Baysox, Score Six Runs on 12 Hits
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies shutout the Bowie Baysox 6-0 Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Every Binghamton hitter got at least one hit.
RHP Harol Gonzalez (6-4) tossed seven scoreless innings, allowed four hits, struck out four and did not issue a walk. It is his 32nd straight start in he pitched at least five innings. Eric Hanhold completed the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief. Lefty Alex Wells (8-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out four.
The Ponies got the scoring started in the third. After singles by Luis Carpio and Will Toffey to lead off the inning, Sam Haggerty delivered a one-out RBI single. Then Patrick Mazeika knocked in two with a single to right.
Two innings later, Barrett Barnes made it 4-0 with a double to left. Andres Gimenez led off the sixth with his fifth home run of the season. Gavin Cecchini knocked in the final Rumble Pony run with a single in the seventh that scored David Thompson.
Binghamton has taken the first two games of this series and has won seven of its last 10.
The Ponies and the Baysox continue their four-game series Saturday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:20 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Haggerty, Cecchini and Gimenez each finished with two hits… Haggerty also scored two runs… Mazeika drove in his team-leading 55th run… Barnes ranks second now with 49 RBI… The Rumble Ponies snapped Bowie’s streak of 14 consecutive series wins.
