TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies begin a week-long road trip with the first of four games against the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Rumble Ponies completed Tuesday’s suspended game against the Reading Fightin Phils on Wednesday with the Fightins winning 8-6. The game was picked up in the bottom of the fourth with the Fightin Phils leading 4-0. The Ponies scored three runs in their first at bat of the day. Reading countered with three of their own in the top of the fifth. Binghamton pulled back within one on a Jason Krizan two-run double in the seventh. Lefty David Peterson suffered the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings. The game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to inclement weather.

KRIZAN’S BIG GAME: Jason Krizan registered three hits with three RBI and a pair of doubles on Wednesday. It was his third three-hit game of the season and the fifth time he drove in at least three runs. Krizan ranks third on the team with 42 RBI.

BARNES LEADS PONIES IN HOMERS: Barrett Barnes’ solo home run in the fifth inning Wednesday increased his season total to a team-high 12. He is now at 48 RBI, one behind  Patrick Mazeika for the team lead. Barnes is tied for fifth in the Eastern League in RBI.

SEASON SERIES: Binghamton has won seven of the first 10 games against Akron this season. The Ponies won two of three during their first trip to Akron (4/22-4/24). The Rumble Ponies won five out of seven at NYSEG Stadium, including three out of four earlier this month (7/4-7/7). The two teams have one more series on the schedule after this one (8/2-8/4 at Akron).

In addition to this visit to Akron, this stretch includes trips to Portland and Reading. Over the first seven games, the Ponies are 4-3.

AKRON’S RECENT STRUGGLES: The RubberDucks have lost their last four games and have dropped eight of their last nine. Three of these loses have come by one run.
