Rumble Ponies Announce 2019 Coaching Staff
BINGHAMTON, NY – With Opening Day less than a month away, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies are proud to announce their 2019 coaching staff. First-year manager Kevin Boles will be joined by pitching coach Jonathan Hurst, hitting coach Tony Jaramillo, bench coach Ender Chavez, athletic trainer Kiyoshi Tada, and performance coach Kory Wan.
Boles, introduced as the Ponies manager in December, will take the reins in Binghamton following a five-year stint managing the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate in the International League. Boles spent three seasons managing in the Eastern League with the Portland Sea Dogs from 2011 through 2013.
Hurst enters his 14th season as a pitching coach in the New York Mets organization. The South Carolina native prepares for his first season coaching at the Double-A level after spending the last three years with the Columbia Fireflies (Low-A). As a player, the righty pitched 12 seasons professionally, including time in the Major Leagues with the Mets in 1994.
Jaramillo (pronounced “har-uh-MEE-oh”) gets set for his first season coaching in the Mets organization. The native Texan spent the last three seasons as assistant hitting coach for the Cincinnati Reds. The former infielder player six seasons professionally after signing with the Texas Rangers organization in 1998.
Chavez joins the Rumble Ponies staff after serving as hitting coach in Columbia (Low-A) last year. The 2019 season will be his ninth in the Mets organization and his first in the role of bench coach. Chavez, a Venezuela native, enjoyed an eight-year playing career that included two stints in the Mets organization. He is the younger brother to beloved former Met Endy Chavez.
Tada enters his 11th season of professional baseball and first at the Double-A level. He spent last year with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A). He is a certified Muscle Activation Technique Specialist and resides in Aichi, Japan in the offseason.
Wan returns for his third season in Binghamton and fifth overall in the Mets organization. A certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Wan attained a B.A. in Psychology from St. Leo University and resides in Tampa, Florida in the offseason.
Boles and the Rumble Ponies kick off the season on the road on Thursday, April 4 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The Rumble Ponies will take the field at newly-renovated NYSEG Stadium for their home opener on April 11 against the Erie SeaWolves.
