“TEAMMATES” O’NEILL, BELMONTE ON OPPOSITE SIDES FOR USA VS. THE WORLD MATCH
Long-time Roth-Holman PBA Doubles Championship partners Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa., and Jason Belmonte of Australia will be on opposite sides of the lanes next Friday as the top qualifiers for their respective USA vs. The World teams when they meet in a special event that will conclude PBA World Series of Bowling X. The Baker team competition will air on FS1 next Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
O’Neill, who qualified No. 2 overall for the PBA World Championship cashers round based on his performances over 30 games in the PBA Cheetah, Chameleon and Scorpion Championship qualifying rounds, will be joined on the American squad by No. 3 qualifier EJ Tackett of Bluffton, Ind.; No. 4 Tom Daugherty of Riverview, Fla.; and Anthony Simonsen of Little Elm, Texas, and Kyle Sherman of O’Fallon, Mo., who tied for fifth on the qualifying list. PBA Hall of Famer Marshall Holman will be captain as the USA contingent bids for its third consecutive win in a pair of best-of-two-game Baker format matches.
Belmonte, the overall No. 1 qualifier for the World Championship cashers round, will be joined on The World team by Colombia’s Andres Gomez (No. 20 on the World Championship qualifying list); England’s Dom Barrett (No. 23); Australia’s Sam Cooley (No. 26) and Sweden’s Pontus Anderson (No. 30). The World’s captain will be another PBA Hall of Famer, Venezuela’s Amleto Monacelli, who helped The World win the first two matches in the series in 2010 and 2013.
PBA BOWLING CHALLENGE MOBILE GAME OFFERS SPECIAL WSOB X TOURNAMENT
Concrete Software’s PBA Bowling Challenge mobile game is offering a special PBA World Series of Bowling 10th anniversary tournament at no cost to its millions of mobile devise users. The special tournament will challenge users to bowl a game higher than the PBA World Champion rolls in the title match that will air live on FS1 on Thursday, March 21, at 8 p.m. EDT.
The “tournament” will begin on Friday, March 22, and end on Thursday, March 28. It will feature a custom WSOB X venue, and the introduction of a special ball that can be used in the competition. Players can enter as often as they wish. All scores that beat the PBA World Champion’s score will be entered into a sweepstakes pool with one lucky winner to be selected to win a bowling pin signed by the PBA World Champion plus 5,000 Gold Pins.

ILLINOIS BOWLING CENTER HONORS HISTORIC “BUDWEISERS” 3,858 SERIES
Hi Top Bowl, a 16-lane bowling center in Highland, Ill., has completed a significant project to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the historic 3,858 series bowled by the legendary Budweisers of St. Louis at Floriss Lanes on March 12, 1958. The members of the team were all superstars in the formation years of the PBA: Don Carter, Ray Bluth, Pat Patterson, Tom Hennessey and Dick Weber.
In cooperation with the center’s local Budweiser distributor, Donnewald Distributing, proprietor Ray Voss created the tribute. The centerpiece is a graphic above the approaches that spans the entire 16-lane center, detailing the series record that stood for nearly 36 years. Mitch Beasley of Clarksville, Tenn., bowling in his second tournament as a “senior,” defeated Jeff Bellinger of Columbia, S.C., 258-238, to win the PBA50 Fayetteville South Open at LaFayette Lanes in Fayetteville, N.C., Sunday for his first PBA50 title.
Beasley, who turned 50 in November, won $1,900 along with his 21st overall PBA Regional title. He went into the 10th frame needing a strike to win the title and did just that, finishing his final frame with three strikes to clinch the victory. Bellinger pocketed $1,000 as the runner-up.
In the semifinal round, Beasley narrowly escaped his match with Craig Auerbach of Sunrise, Fla., winning a one-ball, sudden death roll-off, 10-9, after they tied at 289-289. Beasley threw first and struck. Auerbach followed, leaving a ringing 10 pin. In the other match, Bellinger disposed of non-PBA member Jerry Horn of Lexington, S.C., 233-223.

• Veteran San Antonio, Texas, bowling writer Harry Page has died. Tragically, the popular writer passed away at age 71, hours before he would have learned he was the International Bowling Media Association’s selection as its 2019 Luby Hall of Fame Award.
