Houston’s Shawn Maldonado Leads Six Regional Champions into PBA TOC Field
Pre-Tournament Qualifiers earn berths in Tournament of Champions; qualifying begins Wednesday

FAIRLAWN, Ohio (Feb. 4, 2019) – Nine-time PBA Regional title winner Shawn Maldonado, a 32-year-old two-handed player from Houston, Texas, will lead a field of six PBA Regional champions into the PBA Tournament of Champions when qualifying in the first major championship of the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season gets underway Wednesday at AMF Riviera Lanes.

Maldonado, who averaged 231.5 in Monday’s eight-game pre-tournament qualifier, finished with 1,852 pins to easily out-distance fellow Texan Sean Lavery-Spahr of Pasadena, who had 1,726 pin. Also advancing to join the field of 60 PBA Tour titlists in the TOC proper will be Stephen Pavlinko Jr. of Sewell, N.J.; Patrick Dombrowski of Parma, Ohio; Nathan Bohr of Austin, Texas, and Darren Tang of Las Vegas.

After a practice session from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, qualifying in the TOC begins on Wednesday with six-game rounds at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET. Qualifying continues with the third qualifying round at 11 a.m. on Thursday with a cut to the top 24 players advancing to robin match play round Thursday at 6 p.m., and Friday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. After 42 games, the top five players will advance to Sunday’s live stepladder finals on FOX at 4:30 p.m.
