   Two Major Local Tournaments

  The dates and information of two major local bowling tournaments have been announced for 2017.
  The Idle Hour Lanes 66th Annual Bowling tournament has been scheduled for April 22-May 7 at the tournament location of 2008 Scranton-Carbondale Highway in Scranton, Pa.
  The $6,000 guaranteed 1st place offers competition for men, women and mixed and a handicap team event.
  The Doubles Event has a first place prize of $2,500 in the handicap division while the scratch division awards a 1st place prize of $1,200.
   This tournament also offers bowlers the opportunity to win additional monies in the Crazy Strikes Progressive Jackpot, the Mega Series Jackpot, the Instant High Game Jackpot and the Instant High Series Jackpot. There is a $5 Jackpot Entry Fee.
  The entry fee per team is $170.00 ($34.00 per bowler). Doubles event is $68 per team ($34.00 per bowler.)
  The lanes will be reconditioned after each squad.
  The minimum number of games to use a 2013-14 average is now 12 games. Handicap for the team event is now based on 1100 and in the doubles event 440. There is no longer a scratch division in the team event.
  The 2016 tournament paid out in prize money a total of $36,540.00

  One of the most popular area amateur tournaments is the South Side Bowl 34th Annual No-Tap team and doubles tournament.
  Held at 125 Beech Street, Scranton, Pa. this event runs from April 22 through May 21 (weekends only).
  The team event (men, women or mixed) has a guaranteed 1st prize of $5,000 with $2,500 for 2ed place. The doubles event (two men, two women or mixed) has a guaranteed 1st place prize of $2,000 with $1,000 going to second place.
  The 2016 tournament paid out over $105,001.00. There are also 2017 tournament jackpots and crazy strikes grids.
  Entry fee per bowler per event is $30.00.

                                                                 Ed's Outlook

  Wouldn't it be great if the new Montreign Resort Casino at Adelaar could attract a Professional Bowling Association tour event.
  We know that Montreign will be more than just a casino.
   It has previously  been noted that this overall project is more than a casino and is designed to drive tourism back to the Catskills.
  The overall casino project will consist of the entertainment center portion of the project and the center will include theaters, restaurants and a bowling facility.
  It is not known at this time what the total concept of the bowling facility project will look like and whether or not the bowing center might possibly be able to attract some of the Professional Bowling Association tour tournaments.
  Many of the PBA tournaments are now held in casino's located in Las Vegas, NV.

  Taking care of your bowling equipment can play a very important part in anyone's bowling success.
  Bowling ball maintenance is very important and balls need to be cleaned and maintained  after each use.
  When bowling with a plastic ball it should be known that these balls are not porous and due to the high viscosity oils used today the oil will build up on the balls and eliminate any contact with the lane.
  To clean plastic balls you can use any car care product or household cleaner.
  Plain urethane balls with no additives are also porous and will not absorb oil and dirt. You can also use any car care product or household cleaner on these balls. If you like to keep this ball dull, use an abrasive pad.
  With the urethane based balls with additives commonly known as reactive or particle balls we recommend you towel the ball off after each shot and clean the ball as soon as possible at the end of each bowling session.
  If your reactive ball is dull and you want to keep it that way you can use warm water, dish detergent and a grey or burgundy pad (3M makes them) or the back of a scrubber sponge.
  If your ball does not have a dull surface you can use dish detergent with a rag (no abrasive) or a generic ball cleaner that is made for bowling balls and sold in pro shops. Many products are available to keep your ball polished and that offer the desired finish you want.

SCGCC OFFERS SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP

  LIBERTY--Golfers who have never had the chance to become a golf club member are being given the financial opportunity of a lifetime to join  the Liberty based Sullivan County Golf & Country Club (SCG&CC) with the purchase of a three-year membership for as little as $49 a year (plus a $10 per year administration fee).

  The club last year was taken over by a new management team consisting of Liberty attorney Brian P. Rourke and former Cobblers Restaurant owner Michael Stoddard. The club is still owned by certificate members.
  The new management agreement between Rourke and Stoddard and the unanimous approval of all certificate golf club members provides the new management team with a three-year agreement and an option to purchase the property.

  The management team in a press release this week said, "we have decided to embark on an exciting new program to reach out to the golfers in our area."
  "We recently achieved an important milestone, our 92 year anniversary, and we want to invite golfers to celebrate with us as we look forward to the next 92 years and beyond," the management of the golf course noted.

  Rourke and Stoddard pointed out that "it is important to note that this new program is far different from anything we have offered in the past and that the new Anniversary Membership is not valid for club outings, member events, club tournaments, leagues or can not be used on holidays.

  The Anniversary Membership is valid for open play Monday through Sunday and eliminates golfing fees but cart fees must be paid at $10 per golfer.  

  The SCG&CC Anniversary Membership offer was designed for the club to connect with local players and to get to know them better.

  "We are also sensitive to the needs of individuals and families during this challenging economy and we want to be proactive in delivering an affordable golfing choice," the club management team said.

  The Anniversary Membership press release went on to say that "we hope that families will choose to play more golf together as a way to spend quality time and build lasting memories."

  The management team at SCG&CC said that this membership was "specifically designed with family budgets in mind and offers substantial savings by joining the club today."
  This special membership offer is only available for a short period of time as they will accept only a limited number of additional memberships at this price.

HERE & THERE COLUMN

              "Blowing Up The White House"

  Here & There's email has been flooded early this past week about the Liberal Media not reporting that Madonna told the Women's March on Washington that "yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House, but I know that this won't change anything."
  Other email comments about the Women's March on Washington that was designed to defend values of Environmental Justice and Human Rights was again directed against the Liberal Media who failed to reveal that billionaire activist George Soros financially supported the March to the tune of millions of dollars so in essence the self-proclaimed "grassroots" march wasn't so grassroots after all and in fact a New York Times writer uncovered evidence that the march was orchestrated by Soros in an effort to undermine President Trump.
  A strong email letter read, "signs of vulgarity and profanity makes it so much a part of that movement and truly shows what type of people were involved in these marches."
  Another email noted that celebrities from the podium used profanity-laced insults and the question was asked if the marchers enjoyed and supported this type of language and if that if marchers opened their hearts to patriotism then there would be no room for prejudice.
  An email from a well known Town of Neversink resident asked "how did you all feel about Madonnas speech." The writer inquired if the marchers supported this woman and what she said and then added "how about the young children brought out to protest and were surrounded by vulgar language."
  Other comments sent along on this subject were why protestors when asked by the media why they were protesting couldn't give a real detailed answer.  
  One email noted we just had an election and the resounding defeat of Hillary Clinton told the real story without Marchers waving flags that read, "Free Birth Control and Palestine."   
  The final email we will add to this list read, "real hope and change is going to be the order of the day and we won't find Trump playing golf while Americans are being beheaded or while one of our active duty marines is being beaten in a Mexican Jail, and you won't find Trump turning his back on Americans calling for help and leaving them to die, not will he trade or release any terrorists for a deserter and you will never see Trump sending billions of our dollars in cash to terrorist countries."
  We  totally support values and human rights but statements that were made like "Blowing Up The White House" and the vulgarity and profanity appear to show a different side of society that does nothing more than divide our nation more than it already is.  

HONORS TO "DICK" CORLEY

BPAA TO HONOR RICHARD “DICK” CORLEY WITH VICTOR LERNER MEMORIAL MEDAL
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2017 Bowling Industry Service Awards, the most prestigious awards presented by the bowling industry:
J. Richard “Dick” Corley (Bowl New England, Colchester, Vermont) has been selected as the 2017 BPAA Hall of Fame Inductee and recipient of the Victor Lerner Memorial Medal. The Lerner Medal is the highest honor awarded by the BPAA and recognizes an individual for a lifetime of service to the bowling industry and represents the recipient’s induction into BPAA's Hall of Fame located at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in Arlington, Texas.

Mr. Corley is cited for his nearly 50 years of successful bowling center management in the New England states, his many years of service to the Multi Unit Bowling Information Group (MUBIG) and Strike Ten Entertainment as well as his philosophy in sharing information with fellow proprietors to make the industry stronger.

Scott Devers (Mike Aulby’s Arrowhead Bowl, Lafayette, Indiana) will be recognized with the President’s Medal for his many contributions and years of service to the BPAA, specifically as chairman of the governance committee. The President’s Medal is given to an individual (proprietor/manager) judged to have given exceptional support and/or made significant contributions to the association in the eyes of the current BPAA president.
Andy Bartholomy (Andy B’s/Bartholomy Centers, Springfield, Missouri) will receive the coveted V.A. Wapensky Award, named after BPAA's long-time chief executive officer, "Chief" Wapensky. Mr. Bartholomy is being recognized for his leadership as longtime Smart Buy Committee Chairman and his enthusiasm for the sport of bowling. He has also been a member of the Multi Unit Bowling Information Group (MUBIG) serving as Vice President as well as actively participating in many FEC groups and conferences.
      
Jason Belmonte (Orange, NSW, Australia) is being recognized with the Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award, named after the legendary bowling icon, recognizing his many contributions to the game and sport of bowling, both on and off the lanes.
     
Roger Nyquist (Lake Shore Lanes, Albany, Oregon) will be recognized with the Ruben A. Dankoff Award for Public Policy and Legislative Service for his aggressive debates against employer mandates in the state of Oregon and Linn County. Awarded to an individual or organization who provides outstanding voluntary service on the federal, state or local government level in the development of legislation, public policy initiatives or other political efforts which benefit BPAA members or the industry as a whole, Nyquist has been an invaluable resource for proprietors and is currently serving on the BPAA Legislative Committee.
     
Dave Driscoll (Dave Driscoll & Associates, Mount Dora, Florida) will be recognized with the Special Projects award for his longtime efforts in promoting high school bowling and youth bowling in the state of Florida. He was instrumental in getting bowling a varsity sport in Florida, facilitates state bowling tournaments and helps other states with high school tournaments.
     
Kevin Hong (Normandy Park, Washington) will receive the 2017 Media Award. As a freelance writer, photo journalist and bowling enthusiast, he has visited 57 different locations in 11 states plus Canada to gather information for his Vintage Alleys project.  Hong’s Facebook presence, website and work featured in many magazines, newspapers and websites earned him the Media Award.
The Greater Baton Rouge USBC Association will be recognized at the USBC Convention with the BPAA USBC Association Award, which is presented to a local USBC association who has demonstrated a high degree of cooperation with their local BPAA proprietor group. The relationship between BPAA and local USBC associations is critical since local associations represent the ‘consumer’ and BPAA member centers are the ‘playing fields’ for bowling. The BPAA appreciates how local USBC associations work with our member centers and acknowledges these relationships when they are exemplary.
     
Nancy Schenk, BPAA President and Awards Committee Chairman, stated, "Many excellent nominees were reviewed this year and these award recipients represent incredible leadership, unassuming service and honorable dedication, and we congratulate and thank them for their contributions to the bowling industry."
The Bowling Industry Service Awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Luncheon, Tuesday, June 20, 2017, during International Bowl Expo 2017 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. The Lerner Memorial Medal presentation will take place during the general session on Wednesday morning.

Host Main Event PBA Super Clash on Super Bowl Sunday

 

What: The Main Event Terrell Owens PBA Super Clash is a made-for-TV event that will feature NFL stars teaming up with PBA champions in a doubles format competition.

When: The Super Clash will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. EST (1 p.m. CST) and will be televised live on ESPN.

Where: Main Event Entertainment Center, 24401 Katy Freeway, Katy, TX.

Who: Terrell Owens, a 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame candidate, is host and will compete in the event.  He has competed in the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling and recently teamed up with PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber in the State Farm CP3 PBA Celebrity Invitational.

Owens’ special event will include NFL stars Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Devin Hester and actor Quinton Aaron, who portrayed NFL star Michael Oher in the hit movie “The Blind Side.” They will compete with PBA Tour stars Jason Belmonte, a three-time PBA Player of the Year; Hall of Famers Norm Duke and Parker Bohn III, eight-time PBA Tour winner Bill O’Neil and 2016 PBA World Championship winner EJ Tackett.

Also: PBA will announce its 2016 Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Steve Nagy Sportsmanship and Tony Reyes Community Service Award winners during the telecast. The telecast will also include trick shots by the pros and an exhibition match between Teen Masters Under 14 boys’ and girls’ division champions Kirk Mowl and Mabel Cummins.

Rumble Ponies Release 2017 Promotional Schedule

Binghamton, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies have elevated their promotional schedule to a new level with a 2017 schedule full of fun, family-oriented, affordable nights. With tributes to The Twilight Zone, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and a Salute To Macaroni and Cheese, many of the nights are sure to entertain the Southern Tier all summer long in Rumble Town.
The promotional schedule will be highlighted by 15 Toyota Fireworks Series shows, 9 entertainment acts, 8 giveaways, and 1 post-game concert.
This year, fans will have the chance to vote on colors and/or music to be featured during the Toyota Fireworks Series. For one night, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies are encouraging their fans to take a pledge to turn off their devices and converse with friends and family while enjoying a Rumble Ponies game. Binghamton Rumble Ponies owner John Hughes has pledged to purchase dinner for the first 20 families that call and purchase a table at one of our group seating areas, saying, “What better way to spend quality time with friends and family than sitting at a dinner table at NYSEG Stadium with one another talking about how the day went. I want to encourage families to be more active in the moments that matter with the people that matter. Wait until they see the desert.”

The Rumble Ponies open the 2017 season on the road in New Hampshire on April 6 before celebrating their home opener at NYSEG Stadium on April 13. Season tickets and flex books for the 2017 season are on sale now.
