Herrera, Scheuble, Kemp-Nielson and Lauture are Awarded the 2019 LPGA Leadership Academy Scholarships

Each winner earns a $5,000 college scholarship and enjoyed a VIP experience at the LPGA Tour's season-ending CME Group Tour Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Dec. 9, 2019 – Zoila Herrera, Sally Scheuble, Martha Kemp-Nielson and Christine Lauture have been selected as the 2019 winners of the LPGA Leadership Academy Scholarships, which are granted annually through The LPGA Foundation.

Herrera, Scheuble, Kemp-Nielson and Lauture each received a $5,000 college scholarship and were given a VIP 'inside the LPGA' experience at the LPGA Tour's season-ending CME Tour Championship, which was played at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., from Nov. 21-24. All four are alumnae of LPGA Leadership Academies, Scheuble and Lauture having attended in 2018, Herrera in 2017 and Kemp-Nielson in 2015.

Herrera plans to study sports management and play golf at Wheeling Jesuit University. She hopes one day to work for a big brand like Nike, Adidas, Callaway or the Golf Channel.

"This scholarship is so meaningful to me because I wouldn't be able to attend and play golf at the amazing school that I am at now. I learned so many things from so many amazing people in the LPGA. From breakfast with Commissioner Mike Whan and lunch with the C-suite women on the Foundation Board to learning and meeting the people that make these LPGA tournaments successful."

Herrera's scholarship was provided by Acer, a global leader in computers, software and technology services.

Scheuble will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire where her goal is to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing before going on to work as a registered nurse. She then plans to return to school and acquire a master's degree as a nurse practitioner.

"This scholarship allowed me to follow me dream of enrolling in college and starting my path of becoming a nurse practitioner. Scheuble's scholarship was provided by The Turner Family Foundation, which honors Leslie Corrigan Turner, an avid golfer who made a significant contribution to the Twin Cities community through her lifetime commitment to volunteerism.

Kemp-Nielson, who has set her sights on a career in finance and technology after attending Ithaca College in upstate New York, has been sponsored by Christina Zacamy, the incoming Chair of the LPGA Foundation Board for 2020-2021.

"Winning the scholarship and being able to experience the VIP tour of the LPGA means a lot to me," said Kemp-Nielson. "The opportunity to meet with Christina Zacamy, an astute investor, is inspirational to me. It is clear the LPGA Leadership Academy cares about my development and the empowerment of the next generation of women."

Lauture, who has been sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, plans to study either architecture or law at the University of North Carolina.

"Thanks to this generous scholarship I've been able to dedicate myself 100% to my studies, and not stress about student loans, and use the tools I've learned from the LPGA Leadership Academy to enhance my life every day."

The LPGA Leadership Scholarship, granted to a female high school senior who is pursuing a college education in the United States, is designed to inspire, cultivate and support female undergraduates from diverse backgrounds to achieve their potential as future leaders.
