GRAHAMSVILLE--The final score in the
Tri-Valley-Eldred game Monday at Grahamsville didn't show the intensity
and physical aspects of the game won by the Lady Bears 51-28.
Tri-Valley coach John Tenbus noted in post-game
remarks that, "it was a physical game and what it came down to is that
we had two teams that just really wanted to win bad."
"Eldred with only six girls, one being a Junior
Varsity player they just pulled up had to play scrappy to try and stay
in the game and they did," Tenbus added.
Eldred coach Ryan Jasper pointed out, "we have some tough kids...they hang around and they are battlers."
Coach Jasper noted that Eldred entered the game
minis their top rebounder and second leading scorer who were injured
in the Fallsburg game at SUNY Sullivan last weekend.
Eldred scored first on a two-pointer by Lenae
Kelty and a foul shot by Hailee Kolvenbach gave the Yellowjackets a
short-lived 3-2 lead as Tri-Valley's Angie DiToro scored a deuce and
Morgan Shamro popped the first of four trays to up the Bears lead to
7-3.
The Yellowjackets offense was held to two more
points by Alaina Gaughan in the first quarter as the Bears took the
first quarter lead 13-5. DiToro with four points and Shamro with six
points led the offense for Tri-Valley.
Eldred's scrapped their way through the second
eight-minutes of play off the nine-point scoring effort of Alaina
Gaughan who popped the nets for two three-pointers, a deuce and one foul
shot. Tri-Valley only won that quarter by one point 14-13 but gave them
a 27-18 halftime lead.
Leading scorers in the second quarter for the Bears were Sam Raymond with five, Shamro with five and DiToro with three.
Raymond for the second game in row showed that her height gives her rebounding strength and good perimeter offense.
With limited bench help Eldred's third and
fourth quarters offense was limited to six points in the third quarter
and four points in the final eight minutes of play.
Tri-Valley outscored Eldred 12-6 in the third quarter and and 12-4 in the fourth.
Morgan Shamro again led the Bears in scoring
with 21 points off four trays, one two-pointer and seven foul shots. Sam
Raymond added nine points off three two-pointers and three foul shots,
Jaclyn Musa had eight points off two two-pointers and four foul shots
while Angie DiToro popped in three two-pointers and one foul shot.
Alaina Gaughan led Eldred with 13 points off
two trays, two deuces and three foul shots. Lenae Kelty added eight
points off a tray, two two-pointers and a foul shot.
Turnovers in this game saw Tri-Valley with 21 while Eldred committed 32.
The win upped Tri-Valley's record to 10-5. Eldred's record is now 6-5.
In talking the loss Coach Jasper said, "you can only weather the storm for so long and coach Tenbus knows what he is doing."
In an additional comment about the physical
aspects of this game coach Tenbus said, "our girls had to match that
same intensity and it did get physical but at the same time I thought
both teams showed a lot of respect for each other."
Tri-Valley was scheduled to play one of their
most important league games Thursday night at Grahamsville when they played
host to league leading S.S. Seward.
Tri-Valley's Angie DiToro (22) gets set to shoot
over Alaina Gaughan (11) in the Lady Bears 51-28 win over Eldred Monday
night at Grahamsville.
The intensity of this game is clearly shown here
with Tri-Valley's Taylor Cox (20) and Eldred's Alaina Gaughan (11)
scrambling for a loose ball in the Lady Bears 51-28 win over Eldred
Monday night at Grahamsville.
