Chris Parmelee’s Walk-off Homer Caps Exciting Comeback
SWB Earns 10th Walk-Off Win in 2016
Moosic, Pa.
– The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) received an
exclamation point to a thrilling rally in front of a sellout crowd on
Friday night at PNC Field. Chris Parmelee launched a towering homer down the right field line in the last of the ninth for an instant 2-1 win over the Buffalo Bisons.
The
RailRiders (88-52) claimed their seventh straight win over the Bisons
(66-75) and have won 14 of 15 meetings against the Blue Jay’s top
affiliate.
J.R Graham (1-2)
earned his first Triple-A victory in his debut with SWB. The
right-hander fired a perfect top of the ninth, striking out one. Chris
Smith (0-1) shouldered the defeat after allowing an inherited runner to
score the tying run in the eighth and surrendering Parmelee’s game-ender
in the ninth.
Trailing 1-0 in the eighth, Pete Kozma worked a leadoff walk against reliever Wil Browning and stole second on the first pitch to Jonathan Diaz. With two strikes, Diaz laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Kozma to third. After Smith relieved Browning, Mason Williams lifted a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game.
OFF THE RAILS:
Starter Bryan Mitchell allowed one run on four hits across 5.1 innings while striking out six against no walks.
The RailRiders’ 88 wins match the
2008 then-SWB Yankees total from their IL North championship year. The
2002 Red Barons (91) were the last team to win 90 games in the
International League. SWB can tie the franchise record by winning their
final three regular season games.
Parmelee homered on the first pitch
in the bottom of the ninth. He also had a walk-off jack against the
Lehigh Valley IronPigs in an 8-7, 10-inning win on June 7. The walk-off
win was the 10th of the season for SWB.
Right-hander Brady Lail (6-6,
5.27) will start on Saturday night at PNC Field against the Buffalo
Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) and righty Casey Lawrence (5-5, 3.71). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids receive a pair of CHAMP socks, presented by Scranton Preparatory School. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
