B-Mets Cap Spring with Big Comeback in 6-6 Tie
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The Binghamton Mets scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and closed their spring schedule with a 6-6 tie against the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon at the Mets Spring Training complex.
Trailing 6-1, the B-Mets plated five runs in their final turn at bat, highlighted by a two-run triple by outfielder Gilbert Gomez. Maikis De La Cruz tied the game with a sacrifice fly before the Cardinals bullpen finally notched the last out of the game.
On the mound, Robert Gsellman allowed one run over six innings for the B-Mets. Selected by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2011 draft out of Westchester HS (CA), Gsellman went 10-6 with a 2.55 ERA over 20 starts with the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) last year.
With their spring schedule complete, the B-Mets will play an intrasquad game on Thursday before logging one final workout on Friday.
The Binghamton Mets are set to open their 24th season on Thursday, April 9 in Akron against the RubberDucks. The B-Mets home opener on April 16, highlighted by a championship DVD giveaway, is just eight days away.
