Eddie Lake Scores 19th
300
Fifty year-old Monticello kegler Eddie
Lake continued his bowling excellence January 24 when he smashed the maples for
his 19th career 300 game.
.The 300 came in his second game of the
night bowling in the Friday Mixed League at Kiamesha Lanes with the Rock Ridge
Kennels team with team mates Linda Shaefer, Keven Stackhouse and his mother,
Joan Lake.
The 300 was bowled on lanes 15-16 using his
Hammer Epidemic bowling ball.
His 754 series for the night included a
206, 300, 248.
His 18th career 300 was bowled on November
22, 2013 and resulted in a 793 series off single games of 226, 267,
300.
Lake is well remembered for his February 18, 2012 heroics in the Monday Men's league
at Kiamesha Lanes Lake when he scored a 300, 245, 300 and a 845
series..
Ed credits most of his accomplishments to
a bowling ball drilled out for him by Josh Strang at Strang's Pro Shop located
at Kiamesha Lanes.
Lake, in commenting about his most recent
300 said"all strikes were in the pocket."
Lake is presently carrying a 227 average in
the Friday Mixed league.
He also bowls in the Monday Men's
league with the Lake team consisting of his
father, Mickey Lake, his brother Rick Lake and Roy Sweeney.
It's been a while since Lake has used his
old Hammer bowling ball but he still talks about the old Hammer which he had
repaired numerous times and still believes in the fact that some of the old
bowling equipment can still do the job.
About five years ago Lake had been without
his 24-year-old Hammer as it was being repaired by Mickey Luongo and when he got
the ball back within two weeks the old Hammer resulted in the Eddie Lake "300
game Express" for his ninth 300 game on December 29, 2008.
Eddie on October 1 and October 2, 2007,
made Sullivan County bowling history by bowling 300 games on consecutive nights
all at Kiamesha Lanes.
His high 856 series was bowled in 2004 in
the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes. He has six 800 plus
series.
Considered one of the premier bowlers in
the tri-county area, Lake is single, is employed by Kiamesha Lanes and comes
from a well known Sullivan County bowling family consisting of brother, Ricky,
his mother Joan and father Mickey.
PBA
League
The 2014 Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) team competition is back
on TV Sunday afternoons.
A great match last Sunday featured the L.A. X and the Brooklyn
Styles.
The team competition now consists of the singles match, alternate ball
doubles, the Baker trios and the five man Baker team match.
In the Singles match Jason Belmonte (L.A. X) defeated Sean Rash (Brooklyn
Styles) 255-223. Alternate ball doubles saw Brooklyn Styles Jason
Sterner/Walter Ray Williams Jr. defeating L.A. X Mika Koivuniemi/Parker Bohn
III, 238-234.
In the Baker Trios match Brooklyn Styles Sean Rash, Tom Smallwood and
Walter Ray Williams III defeated L.A. X Jason Belmonte, E. J. Tackett and Andres
Gomez 247-218.
L.A. X, with key strikes from Jason Belmonte and Parker Bohn III in the
ninth and 10th frames of the Baker team match, defeated Brooklyn Styles 237-215,
and advanced to the semifinal round of the PBA league Elias Cup competition at
Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, MIch.
Ed's Outlook
Best wishes for bowling success go out this week to Grahamsville bowler
and Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) member Jon Wilhlem who will be headed
to the Brunswick Zone Carolier at North Brunswick, NJ next week to compete in
the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Open, one of the four major
tournaments staged by the PBA.
Wilhelm brings good local bowling experience to this tournament both as a
certified USBC Level 1 coach and as a member of Storm Bowling with the title of
Bowler/Advisory Staff.
In local league competition Jon has maintained between a 225-230 average
for the past three bowling seasons and has two 300 games and two 800 plus series
with his career high series being 848.
He will of course be facing the tough USBC Masters oil pattern and as of
this writing will be competing against 467 other professional an amateur
bowlers.
The tournament competition starts February 17 and has its ESPN TV finals
on Sunday Feb. 23.
Jon will be competing in the "B" squad.

The Bowling Tip

The tip this week is a reminder that although there are so many
aggressive, high performance bowling balls available, the main component of the
sport is having a sharp game and becoming a good shot maker.
Lane conditions have become very soft and that combination with today's
bowling balls has led to high scoring conditions making the majority of today's
bowlers very complacent about working on their physical game.
However, the sport of bowling is making a comeback as clan be seen in
some of the newer Sport Bowling Leagues so knowing how to adjust to varying lane
conditions and understanding how to use today's bowling balls is only part of
the equation.
For those bowlers who want to maximize their potential in this sport, I
cannot stress enough the importance of finding a qualified and certified bowling
instructor. Even more preferable, you should work with an instructor who uses
video technology to completely analyze your game.
The knowledge you gain from a Certified Instructor is knowledge that will
be useful to you and will stay with you throughout your bowling life.
