Syracuse wins third straight game with 1-0 win over Rochester on Sunday afternoon Rochester, NY - The Syracuse Mets won their third consecutive game with a 1-0 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. Just one day after Franklyn Kilomé’s one-hit shutout, a Syracuse starting pitcher stole the show once again. Mets starter Jerad Eickhoff delivered six innings of scoreless baseball, striking out seven while allowing just three hits and walking only one. Eickhoff's dominant performance in the series finale came after an impressive showing in Tuesday’s series opener, where he pitched six scoreless innings and struck out three. All in all, Eickhoff pitched 12 scoreless innings this road trip in Rochester. After four scoreless innings on Sunday, Syracuse (8-16) finally got on the board in the top of the fifth. With two outs and nobody on, Sebastian Elizalde slashed a single into right field. With Nick Meyer batting, Elizalde stole second base, and a wild pitch during the steal allowed Elizalde to get all the way to third. Meyer then laid down a perfectly-placed bunt single down the third base line to score Elizalde to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Rochester (6-18) was stymied by Eickhoff and Mets reliever Corey Oswalt. After Eickhoff’s six scoreless innings, Oswalt retired the first seven batters he faced. The Red Wings did get a one-out single from Adrian Sanchez in the bottom of the ninth, but Oswalt struck out Jake Noll, and Sanchez was thrown out attempting to steal second base, ending the game. Oswalt struck out five of the nine batters he faced in three scoreless innings pitched en route to his second save of the season. With the win, the Mets took four out of six games this series in Rochester, winning a series for the first time in 2021. The Mets have Memorial Day Monday off before heading to Trenton, NJ for a six-game series against the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m.

Fully vaccinated fans will now be able to sit in selected sections located in the lower seating bowl from dugout to dugout, including the four-top seating sections. Staff will check for proof of full vaccinations at the entry gates, and ushers will verify at the seating sections. Children 15 and under are exempt and allowed into these sections with a fully vaccinated adult escort. These non-vaccinated young fans must wear a mask unless they are actively eating or drinking in their seat. Non-vaccinated fans will have seating options in the 100, 200 and 300 levels in socially-distanced seating pods and must wear their masks at all times unless they are actively eating or drinking in their seat. Fully vaccinated fans can sit in non-vaccinated sections but not the other way around. All fans are still required to wear masks while occupying indoor spaces such as restrooms, the Team Store, elevators, and stairwells. “We are excited to be opening up to more fans,” said Syracuse Mets General Manager Jason Smorol. “Our fans love the renovations and love getting to go to events outside, in a clean, safe environment. We can’t wait to see more fans safely in June!” Capacity will raise to 5,079 from the previously-allowed 20% capacity of 2,163. 100% stadium capacity at NBT Bank Stadium is 10,815. To celebrate the new capacity, the Syracuse Mets will have “Used Snow Fence and Broken Zip Tie” Giveaway day on Thursday, June 10th. “We like to have a little fun, and we thought this would be a silly way to celebrate the ability to open up to more fans. As we cut the zip ties and snow fence that have been used to create the socially-distanced pods, we will save and give to the fans to remember this unique period of time we are all going through,” said Smorol. In addition to “Used Snow Fence and Broken Zip Tie” Giveaway Day on Dollar Thursday, June 10th, the team will have a Pete Alonzo Bobblehead giveaway, a Moses Fleetwood Walker Bobblehead giveaway day, and two firework shows in June. Syracuse Mets to host first virtual Education Day in MiLB History Syracuse Mets virtual Education Day is test for future virtual events SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Mets are excited to announce details for a virtual Education Day that will take place on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. The game against the Worcester Red Sox was originally scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start and has been officially changed to a noon start to accommodate the educational element. The Syracuse Mets game will be available on the day of the game for all students via a free broadcast link on syracusemets.com. Classes can participate in school as a group, or students can join on the link as they are home in remote learning environments. Educational components will be built into the broadcast by John Dalgety, a teacher from the Phoenix (NY) School District that has helped the Mets incorporate more education components into Education Day over the years. Dalgety worked closely with Shaun Moriarty, a teacher from the Worcester School system, who is coordinating the effort to get students from Massachusetts involved. “Education Day is a time-honored tradition across the minor leagues, and we wanted to find a way for this to continue to happen in this time of COVID-19,” said Syracuse Mets General Manager Jason Smorol. “This was an idea presented to us by our creative teachers in CNY, so we asked for permission, and with support from MLB, we will be able to let students participate in the fun of Education Day from home and school.” Approvals for game time changes were provided by the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Major League Baseball. SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS GAME REPORT Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3 Rochester 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 19, 2021) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders used 5.0 scoreless innings from the bullpen to defeat the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday afternoon at Frontier Field, 3-2. It was the first one-run victory of the season for the team, and already the fourth come-from-behind win of the year. Rochester took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Daniel Palka. That was the only blemish against Nick Green on the day, who worked around five walks in 4.0 innings of work to limit the damage. The RailRiders battled back in the top of the third, when Cristian Perez led off with a home run off Rogelio Armenteros. It was his first round-tripper since the 2018 season. SWB wasn’t done in the frame as four walks brought home another run to tie the game at 2-2. Kyle Barraclough (2-0) turned in 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings in back of Green, his longest outing of the season, while Adam Warren and Nick Goody turned in one scoreless inning of relief each. In the top of the seventh, the RailRiders broke through for the go-ahead run against Dakota Bacus (0-1). Andrew Velazquez singled and stole second, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a Thomas Milone base hit. Luis Garcia slammed the door shut on the Red Wings with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his league-leading fourth save of the season. Overall four bullpen arms combined for 5.0 innings of one-hit baseball, lowering the team’s bullpen ERA to 3.39 on the season. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues its six-game series at the Rochester on Thursday night. RHP Brian Keller (0-0, 3.60) takes the mound for the RailRiders, while RHP Jefry Rodriguez (0-0, 7.36) starts for the Red Wings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage on the RailRiders Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. The RailRiders return home to PNC Field on Tuesday, May 25 with a date against the Buffalo Bisons. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Record: 11-3
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (10-3) at Rochester Red Wings (2-11) RHP Nick Green (0-0, 4.50 ERA) vs. RHP Rogelio Armenteros (0-1, 10.13 ERA) | Game 14 | Road Game 8 | Frontier Field | Rochester, NY | May 19, 2021 | First Pitch 1:05 p.m. | LET’S GET IT STARTED (IN HERE): After posting a 6.75 ERA (15 ER/20.0 IP) in the season-opening series at Syracuse, RailRiders starting pitchers were terrific against Lehigh Valley, posting a 3.04 ERA (8 ER/23.2 IP). That figure includes Mike Montgomery allowing 5 ER in 4.0 IP in Saturday’s tilt. With a small sample size of 13 games played RailRiders’ starting pitchers’ ERA has fallen to 4.69, while the overall staff ERA has fell from 6.24 entering Tuesday’s home opener, to 4.10 entering Wednesday’s day game at Rochester. In 2019, SWB posted a 4.98 ERA at home in 71 games, and 4.94 overall. BULLS ON PARADE: The RailRiders bullpen has emerged as one of the strengths of the team through the first 13 games of the season. After 12.1 consecutive scoreless innings, Rochester broke through last night for four runs in the final three innings. Before the late outburst, the bullpen had allowed only one run in its last 24.0 innings across five games, and three runs in 33.1 dating back to Sunday, May 9. As a 12-man unit, the bullpen combined for 51 strikeouts and 17 walks in that span. Overall, the bullpen sports a 3.66 ERA (23 ER/64.0 IP) and is 6-for-7 in save opportunities. The bullpen ranks 10th in the Triple-A East League in ERA, fifth in innings pitched, and is first in strikeouts. In fact, the bullpen’s 92 strikeouts are 15 more than second place Durham. DINGER ALERT: After shattering the SWB franchise record with 212 home runs in 2019 (previously 164 in 1998), the RailRiders are at it again, hitting 22 home runs in their first 13 games this season. The 22 round-trippers hit by SWB puts the club in third place in the Triple-A East League, trailing Durham (28) and Gwinnett (23). The RailRiders are tied for fifth in minor league baseball in home runs and are one of five teams who have hit at least 22 long balls. Of that group, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has struck out the fewest number of times (114). LET IT ZEHN: Before this season, RailRiders OF Zack Zehner had drawn 41 walks in 546 plate appearances (142 G) in Triple-A between the 2018 and 2019 seasons (7.5 BB%). However, in an extremely small sample in Triple-A in 2021 Zehner has already drawn 7 BB in his first 13 PA (53.8 BB%), and including his time with Double-A Somerset has 11 total BB in 25 PA in 2021 (44.0 BB%). Additionally, Zehner had been 3-for-6 career in stolen bases in Triple-A, and is already 2-for-2 in 2021. WALK-A-THON: Through 13 games this season, the RailRiders have drawn 72 walks, the second-most in all of Triple-A baseball behind Gwinnett (80). No other team in the minors’ highest level has taken more than 67 bases on balls. Overall, the RailRiders are 12th in all of minor league baseball in walks, with Tampa (Low-A, NYY) leading the way with 85 walks. SWB’s team .372 OBP is second best in the Triple-A East League, trailing Gwinnett (.384), and ranks 11th across all levels of the minors. There are currently four teams in Triple-A East with team OBPs greater than .360. Rochester (.291) has the lowest OBP of the 20-team league. The Red Wings also have the third-lowest team SLG (.338) in the circuit, and have an abysmal .629 team OPS. MARATHON MEN: The RailRiders played their longest 9-inning game in franchise history on Thursday at Syracuse, clocking in at 4:09. That surpassed the previous record of 4:04, when the then-Red Barons locked horns with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Sept. 1, 2000. Thursday’s game also featured 13 walks by SWB pitchers, three shy of the club record set against Tidewater in 1991. Early in the season, it stands as the longest game in Triple-A East League history, but wasn’t even the longest 9-inning game in minor league baseball on May 6. That distinction belongs to the Lake County Captains (High-A, CLE) and Lansing Lugnuts (High-A, OAK) who completed a 7-6 Captains win in 4:18. Not to be out-done, the RailRiders and Mets game on Sunday, May 9 lasted 4:03, making it the third-longest game in franchise history. AIN’T NO PARTY LIKE A MOOSIC PARTY: Last Tuesday’s RailRiders home opener was Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s first game at PNC Field since Game 3 of the First Round of the IL Playoffs vs. Durham on Sept. 7, 2019. The span of 612 days between games at home in NEPA is the longest in franchise history, surpassing the 577-day streak from Sept. 5, 2011 - April 4, 2013 when SWB played the entire 2012 season away from Moosic owing to renovations at PNC Field. In 2019, the RailRiders were 45-26 (.634) at home, and are 215-143 (.601) at PNC Field since the beginning of the 2015 season, and sport an average season record of approximately 42-28.

That errant throw allowed Herrmann to score, tying the game, 4-4. Two batters later, Jack Lopez doubled home Downs, giving the Red Sox a 5-4 lead. The Mets responded in the fifth. Fargas reached on an error and stole second base. Mason Williams followed with a walk. Tovar then flied out to right field. Fargas tagged up and advanced to third on the play and scored on an errant throw to third that bounced into the Syracuse dugout as the Mets tied the game, 5-5. In his Triple-A debut, Estevan Florial finished 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored. The RailRiders bullpen combined for 5.0 scoreless innings, and has only allowed one run in its last 16.2 innings. The IronPigs picked up two runs in the top of the first against Mike Montgomery on a two-run single from C.J. Chatham. They tacked on an additional run against the lefty in the third and two more in the fourth to open up a 5-0 lead. In his third start of the season, Montgomery allowed five runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out two in 4.0 innings. Nick Nelson tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out five, and Braden Bristo and Nick Goody combined to silence the Lehigh Valley bats afterward. The RailRiders clawed back with a run in the bottom of the fourth against Adonis Medina on an RBI single from Ryan LaMarre. The outfielder finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, his third straight game driving in a run. In the fifth, Chris Gittens connected on an opposite-field two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-3. The blast was Gittens’ third of the season, tying him with Luke Voit for most on the club in the young season. Against MLB rehabber Archie Bradley in the bottom of the sixth, SWB rallied for a run on an Armando Alvarez RBI single to get within one run of Lehigh Valley, but that was as close as the RailRiders would get. IronPigs pitchers retired 11 of the final 12 batters they faced after Alvarez’s hit. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre finishes its six-game series with Lehigh Valley on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at PNC Field. The IronPigs send RHP Spencer Howard (0-0, 0.00) to the mound, while the RailRiders counter with RHP Deivi Garcia (1-0, 5.40). Mets pitching shines, but Red Sox walk off with 2-1 victory in ten innings on Friday night Inbox Michael Tricarico Fri, May 14, 11:06 PM (12 hours ago) to Michael The Syracuse Mets and Worcester Red Sox played their first extra-inning game of the season with the Red Sox winning on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning, 2-1, on Friday night at Polar Park in Worcester, MA. With the game tied, 1-1, in the top of the tenth inning, Syracuse had Quinn Brodey start the frame at second base because of the extra-inning rule implemented in the minor leagues beginning in 2018. Drew Ferguson walked to lead off. Brodey then advanced to third base and Ferguson to second on a Cody Bohanek sacrifice bunt. The Red Sox intentionally walked Johneshwy Fargas to load the bases. Martin Cervenka popped out and Brandon Drury grounded out, ending the half inning. In the bottom of the tenth, Jett Bandy started at second base for Worcester. Bandy moved to third on a Jarren Duran groundout to second base. The Mets then intentionally walked both Danny Santana and Chris Herrmann to load the bases. Yairo Munoz popped out for the second out. Marcus Wilson came to the plate and worked a full count. The 3-2 pitch was inside to Wilson for ball four, walking in the game-winning run for a 2-1 Red Sox win. Worcester (5-5) scored the game’s first run in the second inning. Wilson led off with a home run to center field to put the Red Sox in front, 1-0. Syracuse (2-8) struggled to score and didn’t have a hit through the game’s first six innings. That changed in the seventh. With one out, Quinn Brodey homered over the 22-foot-high Worcester Wall in right field, tying the game, 1-1. While the Mets would manage just one more hit the rest of the game, Syracuse’s pitching was masterful. Starter Jordan Yamamoto struck out eight batters in four and 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing just four hits and one run. Relievers Trevor Hildenberger, Arodys Vizcaíno, and Yennsy Díaz combined to throw 4 and 2/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless baseball while walking just one batter and striking out nine. Stephen Nogosek was on the mound for the Mets in the tenth, striking out one batter. The run that scored is an unearned run. Syracuse and Worcester meet again on Saturday. Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff will be on the mound for the Mets opposite right-hander Ryan Weber for the Red Sox. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m.

Ford Motor Co. on Tuesday said it would invest more than $1 billion in its South Africa operations to support expanded production of an updated version of its Ranger pickup truck, starting in 2022. The investment tied to Ford's Silverton Assembly Plant, located just east of capital city Pretoria, marks the Blue Oval's largest to date in its nearly century-long history in South Africa. The investment is expected to increase the plant's capacity from 168,000 vehicles annually to 200,000, and will add 1,200 "incremental" jobs with Ford in South Africa, for a total workforce of 5,500 employees. Ranger trucks built at Silverton supply the domestic market as well as more than 100 other markets globally — but not North America. Additionally, the South African plant will build Volkswagen pickup trucks as part of Ford's strategic alliance with the German automaker. Ford Motor Co. is investing $1.05 billion to upgrade its Silverton Assembly Plant and related facilities in South Africa, to expand production of its Ranger pickup truck. "This investment will further modernize our South African operations, helping them to play an even more important role in the turnaround and growth of our global automotive operations, as well as our strategic alliance with Volkswagen," Dianne Craig, president of Ford's international markets group, said in a statement. "Ranger is one of our highest volume, most successful global vehicles," she said. "This investment will equip our team with the tools and facilities to deliver the best Ford Ranger ever, in higher numbers and with superior quality." The automaker said in a news release that with the new investment, the Silverton plant is expected to generate revenues that represent more than 1.1% of South Africa's gross domestic product, which in 2019 totaled more than $350 billion according to the World Bank. The investment includes $686 billion for upgrades to the Silverton plant aimed at growing production volume and improving efficiency and quality, the automaker said. Planned upgrades include a new body shop featuring robotic technology, and a "high-tech" stamping plant. Those facilities will for the first time be located on the plant's site. Upgrades also are planned for the box line, paint shop and final assembly. Ford also will build new vehicle modification and training centers, and allocate $365 million to upgrade tooling at major supplier plant. "The extensive upgrades and new state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies will drive efficiencies across our entire South Africa operation — from sequenced delivery of parts direct to the assembly line, to increased vehicle production line speeds and precision of assembly to ensure the world-class quality that our customers expect," Andrea Cavallaro, director of operations for Ford's international markets group, said in a statement. The goal, said Cavallaro, is to take Silverton "completely off the grid, becoming entirely energy self-sufficient and carbon neutral" by 2024. Global automakers and industry experts view Africa — given growing population, relatively low rates of vehicle ownership and prospects for economic growth across the region — as a promising market. "Due to the rise of income levels in many African countries and the emergence of a middle class, Deloitte regards the continent as the final frontier for the global automotive industry," authors of a 2018 Deloitte report on Africa's automotive sector. "Given Africa’s population size and its positive economic outlook, automotive companies will be able to gain a competitive advantage by adopting a medium- to long-term view towards the continent.”
