Tri-Valley Central School ace right-hander Joey
Mickelson only needed 66 pitches to record a perfect no-hit game Monday
afternoon on the Fallsburg Central School varsity baseball diamond as the Bears defeated the Comets 13-0. Mickelson,
pitching here in the sixth inning, struck out eight in becoming the 12th player
in New York State High School Baseball Records to retire every batter, giving up
no walks and not allowing a runner to reach first base. He also helped himself
at the plate by getting two hits and four RBI's. With the win Tri-Valley
improved their record to 8-2. In the background to Mickelson's right is first
baseman George Baggata.

While Joe was the 12th high school pitcher in NYSPHSAA record book history to hurl a perfect game, it is inaccurate to say he was the 12th in NYS high school history since NYSPHSAA records don't include NYC. A kid from Queens pitched back to back perfect games and nearly had a third. That said, it is a remarkable achievemnt since of the 12 on the books in NYSPHSAA records, two were from Tri-Valley. Bo Murphy tossed a perfect 1-0 game vs. Chapel Field on 4/10/2008
