SCRANTON PROUD - Scranton High School's very own Joe McCarthy made his Major League Baseball debut with the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day, July 23rd. NEPA native McCarthy spent his last five seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays system, spending time with the Durham Bulls and making several appearances against the RailRiders. He was acquired by the Giants last summer. A true example of hard work paying off, way to make Scranton proud Joe! Best of luck on your season! CBS Sports - Read more here HISTORY MADE - On Monday, July 20th, the San Francisco Giants' Alyssa Nakken made baseball history as the first woman to ever coach on-field during a Major League Baseball game. During the game, the 30-year-old took over as the team's first-base coach. Former softball standout, Nakken has been a part of the Giant's organization since 2014, working her way up to a full-time coaching position from a baseball operations intern. Her story is truly inspiring for all, for women in sports, and especially for all the young girls out there today dreaming of working in baseball and professional sports.
