Only Rain Halts the B-Mets in 6-3 Win

PORTLAND, ME – The Binghamton Mets erased a pair of deficits and scratched out four unanswered runs to beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 6-3, in a seven-inning, rain-shortened game on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The B-Mets secured their eighth win in nine games and earned their 14^th consecutive victory at Hadlock Field.
Binghamton started their push to the lead with a two-spot in the fifth inning. With runners at the corners, Kyle Johnson chopped a run-producing fielder’s choice to third. The B-Mets outfielder sped home with the game-tying run on a Ty Buttrey wild pitch later in the inning.
After Portland regained the lead in the fifth, Binghamton responded in their next turn at the plate against reliever Nik Turley. Following a pair of walks to start the inning, Victor Cruzado tied the game with an infield single to short. Colton Plaia pushed the B-Mets ahead for good with a run-producing double play.
The B-Mets tacked onto their lead in the seventh on an RBI single by De La Cruz and a run-producing double by Matt Oberste against two Sea Dogs relievers.
Binghamton’s half-dozen run outburst made a winner out of Tyler Pill (2-2). The righty battled through six innings to earn his second win in as many starts. Pill allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four in his second straight game against Portland. All four Sea Dogs runners stranded under Pill’s watch were left in scoring position.
In the seventh, B-Mets reliever Mike Hepple had a 1-2 count on Tzu-Wei Lin before the umpiring crew halted play and summoned the tarp. The game was officially called after a 36-minute delay.
Turley (0-2) allowed four runs on three hits over 1-2/3 innings in the loss. He was slapped with his first blown save of the season.
The B-Mets (13-10) conclude their series in Portland on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM. RHP Rainy Lara takes the hill in the finale against RHP Aaron Wilkerson.
