THE FIRST OF THE VIBRATIONS SERIES: DEEP FIELD - SATURDAY, MAY 18
LUNAR FESTIVAL - SATURDAY, MAY 18 & SUNDAY, MAY 19
THE CROSSROADS EXHIBIT: WE ARE STARDUST - ALL WEEKEND LONG!

WHAT:
DEEP FIELD: 50 years after the moon landing, Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre presents Deep Field, inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope and its greatest discovery – the iconic Deep Field image. The new film combines Whitacre’s masterful score with Hubble’s stunning imagery to create an unforgettable journey from planet Earth to the furthest edges of our universe.  Whitacre is joined by Dr. Frank Summers, an astrophysicist at Space Telescope Science Institute as well as Dr. Michelle Thaller of NASA to discuss space exploration as not only a scientific venture, but cultural and artistic one as well. This takes place on Saturday, May 18th at 6:30 PM in the Event Gallery as part of the Vibrations series.

LUNAR FESTIVAL: Lunar Weekend will celebrate the evolution, tenacity, and legacy of the human spirit in honor of Woodstock’s 50th Anniversary and other landmark 1969 movements. 1969 marked an exceptional year of cultural consciousness and many revolutionary ideas found their footing at this time. Space Exploration was a profound and peaceful transition that harnessed the power of media to reach people in ways never known before. Lunar Weekend will include films, hands-on activities, speakers, and out of this world fun. Weekend activities include Mad Science – “Space Spectacular” and “Fire and Ice” interactive projects, Talks with NASA Solar System Ambassador Laura Jean Checki, Moonscape Selfie Photo Area, Apollo Youth Art Contest, Martian Chronicles: Write your Science Fiction, Moon Myth and Magic with Teaching Artist Karen Smyth, Outdoor Seltzer Rockets and so much more!

WE ARE STARDUST: We Are Stardust in the crossroads exhibit gallery will present objects and interpretation related to the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing, an event which took place in July of 1969, just weeks before the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. The exhibit will interpret the objects and history surrounding the moon landing through the lens of American culture, examining the effect of the Cold War/Space Race, American space program, “moon mania,” and the eventual national success of putting the first man on the moon on the lives of everyday Americans at the end of the tumultuous 1960s.
