B-METS LOSE 4-3


Harrisburg Outlasts Binghamton, 4-3
BINGHAMTON, NY – Stephen Perez launched a pinch-hit RBI double in the top of the 11th, vaulting the Harrisburg Senators over the Binghamton Mets, 4-3, Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
With the game tied at three after ten innings, Kevin Keyes reached on a leadoff walk against Luis Mateo. Chris Bostick beat out a potential double play ball and stood at first with one out. Perez came up as a pinch hitter for the pitcher Juan Gutierrez and smacked a double to right-center, scoring Bostick and giving the Senators a 4-3 lead.
Abel De Los Santos worked around a leadoff walk in the 11th, earning the save and cementing the win for the Senators.
Harrisburg had taken an early 1-0 lead in the third when Rafael Bautista scored on a single from Wilmer Difo. They added to it in the fifth on a Bautista sacrifice fly that drove in Adrian Sanchez.
The B-Mets put up all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. Maikis De La Cruz led off with a walk, L.J. Mazzilli poked a pinch-hit single then Jeff McNeil walked to load the bases. Victor Cruzado followed with a single to left, scoring De La Cruz and Mazzilli. Dom Smith later bounced into a double play that knocked in McNeil from third to give Binghamton a 3-2 lead.
The Senators answered in the top of the sixth as Bautista lined a sacrifice fly to right, allowing Kevin Keyes to tag and score from third, equaling the score at three.
Kyle Regnault delivered five innings and allowed four hits and two runs with four strikeouts in his Double-A debut for the B-Mets. Lucas Giolito tossed four shutout innings with one hit, three walks and four strikeouts for the Senators. Neither starter factored in the decision.
Luis Mateo (0-1) took the loss with one run allowed on one hit in one inning. Gutierrez (1-0) was the winning pitcher thanks to two shutout innings with three strikeouts. Binghamton struck out 14 times, stranded 13 runners and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
The season-opening homestand concludes Wednesday night at NYSEG stadium with the finale of the rain shortened series with the Senators. RHP Rainy Lara will start for the Mets opposite RHP Austen Williams for Harrisburg. POSTGAME NOTES: Two B-Mets (Dom Smith and Stefan Sabol) struck out three times…Binghamton set a season high with nine walks…Kyle Regnault struck out four of the first six batters he faced in his Double-A debut.
